About Shaun Green

Shaun Green is a tenured Professor and the Head Soccer Coach at Central Connecticut State University Blue Devil men’s soccer program. 2010 will be his 26th year in charge of the team which competes at the NCAA Division One level in the USA.

Green, a Newcastle, England native, has built a winning tradition on the New Britain campus over the past 25 years. 
In 2007 the CCSU Men’s soccer team concluded the most successful season in the schools history. CCSU won the Northeast Conference Soccer Championship and the automatic berth to the NCAA National Tournament. In the first round of the NCAA tournament CCSU defeated  #15 Harvard University, 3-2.  In the second round the Blue Devils beat #9 University of Tulsa, 3-2. Central Connecticut men's soccer became the University's first program to reach the round of 16 in a NCAA Division I Championship event. The Blue Devils are only the second team in Northeast Conference history to reach the “Sweet Sixteen” in the NCAA Men's Soccer Championship. The Blue Devils also concluded the season being nationally ranked in the NSCAA, College Soccer News Polls and as high as 16th in the country by the Top Drawer Soccer Poll. We have been nationally ranked 6 times in the past 2 seasons. A tactical innovator, Green’s tenure has helped the Blue Devil program rise to national prominence.

In addition, Govener Jodi Rell, proclaimed Feb 7th 2008 as “CCSU Men’s Soccer Day” in the State of Connecticut for our history making season this year.

In 2008, Shaun Green was honored by the Connecticut Sports Writers' Alliance at the 67th Gold Key Dinner.  Green, who recovered from a heart attack to lead the Blue Devils to the NCAA quarterfinals, was bestowed the Bob Casey Courage Award

In 2003, Green earned Northeast Conference Coach of the Year honors after guiding the Blue Devils to an appearance in the NEC tournament final.  In 2006, 2007 and 2008 CCSU made appearances in both the NSCAA/adidas and College Soccer News national top-25 polls, peaking at #19 in the former.  As a member of the Mid-Continent Conference, Green built CCSU into a regional power,  Under Green, the Blue Devils played in four consecutive Mid-Continent championship matches, winning back-to-back conference championships (1994-95) and earning two NCAA play-in match berths – a 1-0 overtime loss to Notre Dame in 1994 and a 3-1 loss to Butler in 1995.

Green is the former Director of Coaching in Connecticut for the National Soccer Coaches of America (NSCAA) and has also served as the head coach of the Connecticut U-17 Olympic Development Team, which he led to the Region I Championship.  He is currently the President of the International Coaches Association and formally served as the chairman of the NSCAA Regional Ranking Committee and chairman of the NEC Coaches’ Committee.

In addition to on-the-field work, Green is a worldwide leading author of soccer books and multimedia.
His books are sold in Borders and Barnes and Nobles and Amazon.  He has published four coaching books and eight multimedia instructional coaching CD's focusing on instructional coaching techniques.  In addition, Green is the founder and President of the International Coaches Association (ICA), which is the world’s largest soccer coaching website.

Green,  received his tenure from the University in 1991. He holds coaching licenses from National Soccer Coaches Association of America, the United States Soccer Federation and the English Football Association.

As a consultant, Green has designed coaching curriculums for some of the most respected coaching organizations worldwide. He help design programs for
Saint Vincent National Team, The Football Association of Ireland Summer Camps, The Skyhawks and Eurotech camp companies.

In 2005 Shaun Green developed and produce a comprehensive online coaching certification website for the National Alliance of Youth Sports. The National Alliance for Youth Sports is a membership organization and the most widely used volunteer coach training program in the nation, having trained more than 2 million coaches since its inception in 1981. More than 2,600 community-based agencies and organizations have access to the program.He produced and developed online instruction website for soccer, football, Baseball, Flag Football, T-Ball, Softball, Cheerleading, Basketball, Volleyball, Ice Hockey and Inline Hockey.

Coach Green, a 1985 graduate of Davis & Elkins (WV) College, lives in Southington, Connecticut, USA with his wife, Laurie, and their sons, Kenneth, Shane and Adam.
