Martin Jacobson is the winningest high school soccer coach in New York City history.  He coaches Martin Luther King, Jr. High School in Manhattan. His teams have won the coveted Public School Athletic League Championship, the largest and oldest high school league in the country, a record 12 times. Teams under his guidance over the last 16 years at MLK have won over 95% of all games played and are consistently one of the top 20 ranked  ( NSCAA and ESPN Polls ) high school teams in the United States.

About Martin Jacobson

Martin Jacobson is a recovering heroin addict with over 24 years of abstinence, He has transformed his life to help his players “get a better life”.  Coach Jake,as he is affectionately called by his players, works with mostly new immigrants who hail from all over the world. He has placed hundreds of players in college and a number of gifted athletes into the professional ranks.

Coach Jacobson has been featured in many newspaper, magazine and web-based articles as well as numerous media shows. The New York Times, ESPN, 60 Minutes II, The NY Daily News, The Fox Soccer Channel, Thisisamericansoccer.com are a few places you can view stories regarding Coach Jake.He was also featured in the Setanta Sports produced award winning documentary “Coach” in 2004.

New Yorker Magazine editor and well known author, Ben Greenman,  has submitted a book proposal on Coach Jacobson's life and the sale of the project is imminent.Coach Jake's life rights have been purchased and an option to produce a major motion picture is currently in development.

Martin Luther King High School coach Martin Jacobson received a letter of appreciation from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America at the organization's awards banquet in Baltimore, Md. on Friday night.

Jacobson was honored for his 30 years of service in New York City.


Jacobson has been working with players in the inner-city areas of the city, helping them learn about the game and teaching valuable life lessons.As MLK coach this fall, he guided his team to a record fifth consecutive Public School Athletic League title, its eighth league championship during his tenure.
